Meta Trader Charts: Graphical Instruments
Different symbols and lines may be added to the chart via the Insert menu or buttons on the toolbar. Lines and symbols may be deleted one by one, starting with the most recently added, by using the BackSpace button or from the Charts menu. It is also possible to delete all of the lines and symbols from the Charts menu. Objects may be edited as follows: select by double-clicking the mouse, click the right mouse button, and select Properties (the selected object can also be moved and deleted out of sequence). It should be noted that the currently selected object will not be unselected when another is selected: it should be unselected by repeated double-click. Otherwise, if multiple objects are selected any editing of object properties will affect all of the currently selected objects. The selected objects can be moved independently of each other.
The Line Studies bar consists of a floating window which can be attached to the left, right or bottom margin of the main application window.
More elements may be added by right mouse click, into the chart using Customize:
To add a vertical or horizontal line, select the corresponding button of the Line Studies bar and click the left mouse button at the desired place in the chart. To add the trend line or Fibonacci retracement select the corresponding button of the Line Studies bar, then click and hold the left mouse button at the first point of the trend (at the point of the start moving for retracement), move the cursor to the second point of the trend (to the point of stop moving for retracement) and release the left mouse button. To make the canal line, press Ctrl + click the left mouse button at the selected trend. Move the mouse without holding the button down. A new trend parallel to the selected one will follow the cursor. 
A context menu 
is displayed as follows:
Select the desired symbol and then click at the desired position in the chart. To add the text to the chart:
- click the button
- click at the desired position in the chart
- double-click the displayed inscription Text , an outline around the inscription will appear:
- edit the inscription properties. The Text property is responsible for the inscription text. Having edited press OK;
- double click the mouse at the inscription to unselect it. The outline should disappear.
Indicators
Technical analysis indicators may be added to the chart using the Navigator window, or indicators window (menu Insert -> Indicators, Ctrl+I). The indicators window is displayed as follows:
All indicators available in MetaTrader are shown in the Indicators group. After choosing a particular indicator for example (Accelerator Oscillator) select and drag it into the chart. The indicator setting window will appear. Set its parameters (if necessary) and click the ОК button. After the indicators window has been closed this indicator will appear in the chart. To delete an indicator from the chart click on the right button of the mouse and select the indicator list. From the list select the indicator you want to delete press it and chart will disappear.
When using the same set of indicators, a Template may be used: having set complex indicators in one chart, select Template -> Save Template in the Charts menu or in the context menu. To use the saved set of indicators in another chart, select Template -> Open Template. After the indicators window has been closed, it will disappear from the chart.
Expert Advisors
Expert Advisors are used to render the trading process automatic, freeing the trader from continuous monitoring of the market. Many professional traders have a large amount of trading systems allowing them to work in different markets and under different conditions. They usually prepare and test their trading strategies in such well known analytical software packages as MetaStock or TradeStation
Expert Advisors in MetaTrader allow connection of signals generated by trading systems to a trader’s live account in such a way that it is possible to view and manage their open positions, orders and stops just from the expert system.
