Equities
- Asian stocks rose Tuesday, following an increase in commodity and energy prices
- The MSCI Asia Pacific Index rose 0.6% to 135.00 in Tokyo
- Nikkei 225 gained 0.2 % to 10,316.77 while South Korea’s Kospi Index increased by 0.6% to 2,009.05
- US stocks were little changed Monday, following US President tax-cut agreement ahead of the Fed meeting tomorrow
- The S&P 500 rose 0.06% to 1,246.73 and DJIA advanced by 0.2%, to 11,428.56
Bonds
- Treasuries rose Monday, amid speculation that retail sales figures will be beat analysts’ estimates
- Treasuries 10-year yields rose to 3.29% early morning in London
- Monday, Spanish 10-year bonds fell as European Union leaders prepare to discuss a permanent recovery programme within the euro zone
- The Spanish 10-year yield rose to 5.49% at 4:31 p.m. in London
- Tuesday, German government bonds were little changed
Commodities
- Monday, oil declined amid concerns that warmer than expected weather in the US will reduce energy fuel demand
- January contract fell 0.5% to $88.13 a barrel in New York
- Tuesday, gold rose 0.6% to 1,402.32 an ounce in Singapore on renewed demand for value storing assets
- February delivery contract advanced 0.3% to $1,402.70 in New York
Currencies
- Tuesday, the dollar fell against the euro, ahead of Federal Reserve meeting and its decision on target interest rates
- The dollar was little changed against the yen and traded at 83.42 in Tokyo
- The Dollar Index dropped 1% to 79.258 early morning in London while the euro gained 0.2% to $1.3412 early morning in London
- Taiwan dollar rose on strengthening trade ties with China and increased confidence in region’s economy
- According to Bloomberg data, Taiwan’s Q3 growth of 9.8% was the fastest among Asia’s 10 largest economies
